Facebook have been hinting at the debut of the Oculus Quest Pro recently and accordingly, Facebook is updating existing hardware.

To explore new features, Facebook announced the rollout of version 31 (V31) for selected Oculus virtual reality (VR) headsets.

V31 revamps security and social accessibility for Quest devices by introducing improved navigation for users.

Oculus announced the rollout on its blog yesterday, which outlined new features and where users will see them.

V31’s ‘Invite to App’ feature seamlessly invites friends to online play sessions — a needed improvement for the Quest — because many multiplayer games have suffered from poor matchmaking.

Currently, ‘Invite to Play’ is only available for selected titles such as Beatsaber and Blaston, with the latter being a testing ground for Facebook’s controversial VR advertisements.

But v31 hopes to improve the user experience first and foremost, and overhaul secure navigation. With a Security Settings panel added, Oculus users can now encrypt Quest devices with an unlock pattern and additionally add autofill options for browser passwords.

Facebook for Enterprise

Password-encrypted Quests are a small step in creating secure devices for wider office use similarly to personal laptops.

Oculus offers enterprise-grade VR through Quest for Business, where improved security and accessibility features result in improved enterprise integration

For example, people can use ‘Invite to Play’ to easily invite colleagues to virtual conferences or events.

Previously, v30 fully integrated ‘Air-Link’ feature, allowing employees to wirelessly access PC-VR applications via Quest devices and enhancing features and visuals.

Facebook is also making moves towards augmented reality and artificial intelligence by partnering with spatial computing experts Matterport. The team is creating a digital twin library of real-life locations, giving “critical data” to enterprises, according to Brendan Dowdle, GM of Matterport Capture Services.
