German VR firm holoride is aiming to build the next stage for in-vehicle entertainment, announced this week it had released its Elastic Software Developer Kit (SDK) for its new Creator Space.

The SDK runs on the Unity gaming engine, the world’s top platform for real-time 3D (RT3D) content, offering a powerful toolkit for immersive experiences for in-car gaming.

The Munich-based VR company is currently building the world’s first immersive entertainment platform for vehicles, which uses motion and location-based tracking to sync with journeys in real time.

Nils Wollny, Chief Executive and Co-Founder of holoride, said the release of the Elastic SDK marked an “important milestone” for the company ahead of its market launch in 2022, adding:

“We’re opening a world full of possibilities for content creators to start building contextual, immersive experiences for passengers. By eliminating tech and business complexity, we encourage content creators to unleash their full creative potential and embark on this ride to build great content.”

According to the firm, the Elastic SDK does not require additional coding or developing skills for initial builds, allowing more content creators to quickly work on projects.

Elastic SDK also includes numerous assets such as animations, renders, audio, and others to quickly construct new worlds.

Timoni West, Vice-President of Augmented and Virtual Reality at Unity, said:

“holoride is revolutionizing the way that we can interact with moving objects, both in the digital and physical world and is representative of how Unity’s platform is the underlying SDK for the metaverse”

The platform’s Elastic Content can also reduce motion-sickness, and additional XR technologies could create future options for content creation in the motor industry, the company added.

Pico Interactive will also be the first VR headset provider for the Creator Space experience, and developers on the headsets can experience their projects via holoride’s Developer Kit.

holoride’s Creator Space facilitates the creative process for developers and includes the Elastic SDK, tutorials, documentation, and other tools from the developer community.

Creators can also conduct vehicle tests, as well as demo content, via the platform’s Developer Kit.

Both Audi and Unity are backing developers on the holoride platform, and will feature content from Schell Games in a firsthand demo of the Pittsburgh-based studio’s content from Los Angeles to San Francisco, allowing developers to test the SDK’s full capabilities.
